For three years straight, we've heard the same thing about John Caulfield's Cork City. They lack the bottle, they can't grind out victories, they won't win a league under him. They play hackball and they're a one man team.
That's all been quieted after last night.
Cork City FC are twelve points clear at the top of the Premier Division table after eleven games. Three more victories and they will break the all time consecutive winning record, set by Bohemians in the 1920's. They've already equalled the record for most wins at the start of a league season (set by Shamrock Rovers in the 60's - credit to @posephoto). Five goals conceded in 990 minutes of football. Seani's on fire, Shepchenko is backing him up and then we bring in Bucks. One man team alright.
And yet still managers are claiming we're beatable. Harry Kenny the latest to do so, adding to Keith Long from a couple of weeks back.
Yet no team in the country has been able to do so. We've ground out wins over Bohemians and St.Patrick's Athletic, scoring a couple of goal-of the season contenders while we're at it.
There's something special going on. The players know it too. The picture above shows that - pure passion from John Dunleavy
Rebel Radio have and will be there all the way. We had the fantastic Neal Horgan alongside Kev & Cudds last night, and believe us he will be back. Neal's one of the most well-known footballers in Cork having written two successful books about the club, and his knowledge last night brought a new angle to our usual analysis.
Next up for us is a double-header on Bank Holiday Monday. The Robbie Galvin Cup will feature both lads and RR will be there for the shenanigans, then it's out to Turner's Cross for a League Cup meeting with the Saints.
The immovable force? The unstoppable object. Whatever you want to call Cork City, they're not the bridesmaids anymore. They're well on their way to finally getting their hands on the Holy Grail again.
